After twenty years of operating brownetrading.com, we like to think we know a thing or two about selling seafood online. Even as eCommerce veterans, it’s important to continually evaluate our offerings, ensuring that our customers have the best and most modern shopping experience.
For ten months, our online team has carefully analyzed customer feedback from direct outreach, phone calls, and online service tickets. This feedback surfaced a range of desired improvements and features for shopping online, and from those, our team compiled the most imminent requests.
We went to work researching the best platform needed to make these changes, and after months of behind-the-scenes work from our small team, we launched the new brownetrading.com on September 27th, 2023.
Welcome to the new site!
First, you’ll immediately notice our new, modern look. With our core values in mind, we designed our appearance to spotlight the beauty and high quality of our products. Returning customers might also notice that the site is much faster than its predecessor.
Navigating around is easy. You can browse your favorite product categories right under the “Shop” tab. If you prefer to search, there is also a prominent search bar that indexes products, recipes, and blog posts across the website.
We’ve also taken time to expand the myriad of resources we've developed over the last twenty years; caviar guides, recipes, tutorials, and blog posts are now more accessible under the “Education” tab. Educating our retail customers just like our wholesale clientele has long been a beacon of brownetrading.com.
In "Our Heritage” section, we proudly advertise our sourcing practices, quality standards, and species information. You can read these and learn about our history and founder, Rod Browne Mitchell, under this tab.
We have a range of new features we know you’ll be excited about.
- We now offer accelerated payment options: we accept payments from Apple Pay, Paypal, Shop Pay, Google Pay, and Meta Pay, in addition to all the major credit cards we previously honored. Those of you who love the speed and security of external payment systems can now shop happily with your preferred vendor!
- Moreover, we now accept international credit cards! While we only ship to the US and Puerto Rico, those of you with US-homes and US-based friends can now easily place orders online.
By popular request, we now have gift cards! No more stress – let the seafood lover in your life pick their own gift. Gift cards are delivered by email to the purchaser and contain instructions to redeem at checkout. Gift cards are final sale and may be redeemed only at brownetrading.com. They are not redeemable at Browne Trading Gourmet Market.
All orders now have easy flat rate shipping: We are thrilled to say that all orders shipping to the contiguous US now have a flat shipping rate of $35. No more confusing weight tables and surprises at checkout! Our free shipping thresholds remain the same: caviar orders over $150 and seafood orders over $300 still ship free - and all orders still ship overnight via UPS' reliable Next Day Air service. - You’ll notice that products have expanded reviews! You can now include photos in your reviews and see what your fellow foodies are cooking.
It doesn’t stop there! We’re so happy to say this is just the beginning. We’ll be rolling out even more features and improvements in the coming months, so stay tuned.
In addition to new features, some pieces and processes have changed around here. We ask our customers to be aware of the following:
The delivery calendar has been relocated to the cart page! You MUST select your delivery date before proceeding to checkout. No more passing by the calendar and selecting the incorrect date when scheduling a future order. Overnight delivery is still available until 2pm est, Mon-Thurs.
The new checkout experience works very quickly. If you frequently ship to second homes, travel destinations, or gift recipients, be sure to double check your shipping and billing information. You will now enter the shipping address before your billing information.
Your customer account password has been reset! To ensure customer data security, we could not migrate over your account password to our new site. Prior account holders have already been contacted directly to reset their passwords; if you missed these communications, send us a quick note and we’ll be happy to help you.
Once your account is created, you can set up and save multiple addresses - great for those who travel or send gifts.
- Our contact information has changed! You can now reach us at email@example.com. If you have our old email saved, we’ll be available there, too.
Before we wrap up this lengthy post (huzzah if you've made it this far!), Browne Trading would like to pause and say thank you for staying with us – From COVID-19 radically changing the way we do business, to a devastating 2020 fire that caused us to relocate for 6 months, to global supply changes, this small Maine company sincerely thanks you for staying by our side and supporting us through it all.
