Lunar and Chinese New Year mark a new beginning with hopes for prosperity and good luck. It also signals a calling for festive dishes, surely to awaken winter days. Traditional favorites include dumplings, steamed whole fish, prawn entrees and so much more.
We compiled a few of our favorite seafoods to inspire Chinese New Year recipes. Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Chinese New Year!
Dumplings
If eating dumplings means good luck, then we gladly accept this challenge. Use pork, shrimp or your favorite filling and spoon into dumpling wrappers.
For ushering in Chinese New Year with good wishes, make pleated dumplings to symbolize Chinese ingot currency or wrap at the top to match the traditional money bag dumpling.

Whole Fish
Served with head and tail, ring in Chinese New Year from beginning to end with steamed whole fish.
We recommend snapper, black sea bass or Spanish sea bass. Keep it simple with ginger and shallots or follow our recipe for detailed steps.
Prawns and Lobster
Prawns and lobster represent good fortune and make wonderful main courses for Chinese New Year. We love red carabineros for their symbolic color- steam whole or serve in hot pots.
For another prawn recipe, recreate our Year of the Tiger dish with popular Salt and Pepper King Prawns.
