Esteros Lubimar Visits Browne Trading Company

Last week we had the pleasure of seeing Esteros Lubimar (previously part of Veta la Palma), our dear suppliers of lubina and daurade. Esteros Lubimar exemplifies the highest quality of sustainable aquaculture. They earned this reputation by raising fish in marshland conditions at a significantly low density. In fact, they raise 3 fish per liter of water, which is much lower than the average farm that can be 20+ fish per liter ‼️The low stress conditions translate to supreme quality and can be seen by the healthy, silver color and clean taste.

While visiting Portland, Maine Esteros Lubimar detailed the spectacular extent the farm takes to maintain pristine quality. For one, they pump 12,000 liters of water per second through the main channels 24 hours a day, ensuring new and clean water no matter the tides. Moreover, water makes up 65% of the estate for an extensive system of waterways and natural marshland. Because of their integration with the natural environment, they accept that many fish are eaten by flamingos and osprey.

What makes these natural conditions even more amazing is the region’s natural winds (levante). These winds create currents for the fish to build muscle, creating wonderful texture. The ample space and levante allow the fish to thrive without any antibiotics.
