Maine Gold Mussels
Approx. 5 pound bag. 25-30 mussels per pound. Live.
Maine Gold Mussels look and taste delicious, all while helping sustain Maine's wild and rope-grown mussel fisheries. Born in a hatchery to carefully selected parents from wild strains, these Maine Gold Mussels produce beautiful, delicate shells, filled with plump meat.
Grown on a 30-year old mussel farm in the cold, clean waters of Hancock, Maine, this high value product only comes from Blue Hill Bay Mussels. They reliably grow mussels without depleting the wild fishery.
Unlike mussels derived from wild seed, they have the ability to "plant" seed on ropes, rather than wait for nature to plant seeds on the ocean floor. This means larger harvests over more months of the year, and cleaner, less gritty mussels.
Enjoy these steamed with garlic and white wine, or in stews, soups, bouillabaisse, and other pasta dishes.
