Okinawan brown sugar is prized throughout Japan for its deep, complex flavor and remarkable versatility. Produced on only eight islands in the Okinawan archipelago, each sugar reflects the unique terroir of its origin. This particular sugar comes from Hateruma Island—the southernmost inhabited island in Japan—and is widely regarded as one of the finest and most sought-after Okinawan sugars.
Rich and aromatic, it offers layered notes of warm brown sugar, earthy minerality, and subtle savoriness, with a deep fragrance reminiscent of tobacco and caramelized cane. Its complexity makes it equally at home in sweet and savory cooking, adding depth and character to everything from desserts to braises and broths.
Because it is far less processed than refined white sugar, this sugar retains its natural texture and is not fully granulated.
Shipping Information
All orders are shipped via UPS Next Day Air. If a future delivery date is chosen, your order will ship the day before the selected date. If an order is placed after cutoff (2pm ET), your order will ship the next available shipping day. For example, orders placed after 2pm ET on Thursday will ship on the following Monday for Tuesday delivery. Our shipping department is closed Friday-Sunday. We do not offer Saturday or Monday delivery.
